With a little more than two weeks left to file, the Copperas Cove City Council and Copperas Cove Independent School District Board of Trustees have one contested election.

Azeita “Z” Taylor, 42, and former Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce president Marty Smith, 67, filed for Place 4.

The seat is held by Danny Palmer, who has been on the council since March 2009 and cannot run again.

Councilmen Kenn Smith, 81, and Gary Kent, 48, also filed to retain their seats in Place 5 and Place 3.

For the Cove ISD School Board of Trustees, President Joan Manning, 59, and members Doug Cook, 75, and Mike Wilburn, 65, filed candidate applications to run for the board’s third, fourth and fifth seats.

Residents who want to run for seats on the City Council can obtain information and applications at the city secretary’s office, 914 S. Main St., Suite E, or download an application at www.copperascovetx.gov.

Board of trustee information and applications can be picked up and submitted at Cove ISD administrative offices, 703 W. Avenue D.

The deadline is Aug. 26.
