As spring break draws near for the Copperas Cove school district, many local groups have activities planned for students, including field trips and bowling parties.

One of those groups is the Copperas Cove Boys & Girls Club. Open all week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the club has scheduled a field trip to the Copperas Cove Animal Shelter to help walk dogs.

Children also can participate in many game tournaments and arts and crafts projects throughout the week.

“We’re usually pretty busy this time of year,” said Arin Newberry, Cove Boys & Girls Club program director. “We can expect to have 70, 80 kids an afternoon.”

Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation will host its spring break camp, which is modeled after its summer event, Camp Discovery. The five-day camp features arts and crafts, outdoor activities and a field trip to Cedar Park. Enrollment is $70.

The Armed Services YMCA, based in Killeen, will have its annual spring break camp in Copperas Cove’s City Park. The cost of the camp is $80. The group also will keep its Family Center open for teens from noon to 6 p.m. Other plans include a caving trip to Austin and a bowling and pizza party.
