Newly elected Copperas Cove City Council member Marty Smith is ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work for her constituents. Smith is replacing Danny Palmer in Place 4. Palmer reached term limits and was not able to run again. Smith will be sworn into office on Nov. 19.
Smith knows the community and its leaders well having served as chamber of commerce president for seven years. She is also active in the morning Exchange Club with fellow council member, Mark Peterson.
“I have never been on the council, and I will bring a new perspective,” she said. “I have always been active in every community in which I have lived. ... I know I can be a great asset to Copperas Cove based on my enthusiasm, drive and experience.”
Smith said the tax rate in the city concerns her and she would like for it to remain stable or possibly lowered. City beautification will be one of her top priorities.
“We have made progress, but I plan a faster progression of positive changes especially now that plans are coming to reality,” she said.
Smith vowed to listen to residents, talk to city employees, work with the city manager and then bring more discussion to the table at our city council meetings.
“I will work hand-in-hand with the other City Council members,” she said. “I will also bring my community involvement as a member of several community organizations, boards and committees to help in getting our issues addressed with other entities and communities. I have a great relationship with our military leaders.”
