Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation swore in a new member to its board of directors Oct. 24, replacing a 9-year veteran of the group.

Jack Smith, an associate real estate agent at Donlie McMullin Reality, was sworn into governmental office to replace Jimmy Clark, owner of Jimmy Clark Homes. Clark served on the Cove EDC from 2002 to 2013.

“Jimmy has been a tireless worker behind the scenes for the EDC,” said Dan Yancey, corporation chairman. “His knowledge of the industry is vast, and we been very lucky to tap into that resource.”

Clark, who also developed residential properties as part of his business, was able to help the Cove EDC with its development projects and land issues, such as the Narrows Business and Technology Park and the reconstruction of Old Copperas Cove Road. “I think we made Copperas Cove a better place to live,” Clark said about his time on the board.

As part of the board, he helped facilitate land swaps with Fort Hood that led to the creation of Five Hills Shopping Center and several other properties.

Smith will add a similar background to the corporation since he is knowledgeable of real estate. “Jack has a vast amount of knowledge in real estate in the area, and that will be good for going forward for finding property and getting potential businesses coming to (Copperas Cove),” Yancey said.
