The third annual Summer Run to Fun, the second of three Copperas Cove races in the Cen-Tex race series, is scheduled for Saturday at South Park.
“We get a lot of compliments about the course,” said Betty Price, Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau president. “Unlike some other venues in the circuit, we have three completely different courses in three different parks.”
More amenities are available for participants and their families this year.
“We’re really excited that we have use of the pool in the morning,” Price said. “It’s supposed to be in the high 90s on Saturday, and even in the morning it will be in the low 80s or so, and that will really help out the runners and be fun for their families and friends, too.”
Local businesses will provide breakfast food and shaved ice as the day heats up.
Participation in the race has slowly grown over the last two years, and with the amenities available, the Cove Chamber hopes for an even larger turnout.
“In the first year, there were about 75 people running,” Price said.
“Then last year, a little over 100. We’re really hoping for over 150, maybe even 200 this year.”
“Having the pool available is big,” Price said. “We really hope that we can get more people to come out because it isn’t just a run. It’s something you can bring your whole family out to and have something to do during and after the race.”
