Voter turnout in Copperas Cove has been lackluster at best for many years, according to county voting records and local-resident feedback. This year seems to be trending right along with that historical data.

“The registered voters in Copperas Cove have remained relativity stable over the past several years,” said Justin Carothers, Coryell County voter registrar. “There are only slight fluctuations from year to year.”

Early voting for the March 4 primary election has been underway since Feb. 18 and fewer than 800 registered voters in Coryell County had ventured to the polls by Feb. 22. Of those latest numbers, 355 were from Copperas Cove, which has more than 18,000 registered voters.

In 2012, only 578 Copperas Cove voters showed up to cast their ballots during early voting for the primary election. In 2010, that number was 505.

Early voting continues through today, with polling locations open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Copperas Cove City Council chambers at 507 S. Main St.

Countywide voting for Coryell County is in effect for the March 4 election, with polling locations open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Early voting ends at 5 p.m. today.
