An arctic cold front is expected to hit the area later this afternoon, so while the weather outside may be frightful, the Copperas Cove Public Library offers the warmth of friendship and good books with many of the upcoming events in January.
“This coming week we have both the Special Needs Support Group and the Maker Club meeting on Wednesday,” library Director Kevin Marsh said. “Members of the Maker Club will be giving updates on the various components of the Rube Goldberg machine they are working on.”
The Special Needs Suport Group will meet at 3:30 p.m., while the Maker Club meeting at 6 p.m. The support group is a place where families and friends of people with special needs can come together and share their stories and lend each other strength.
On Thursday the Central Texas Writer’s Society will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m.
“This group is really just a chance for writers to get together with other creating people, get some feedback on their writings, and possibly read some interesting work,” Marsh said.
Next week, the book club and the Medieval Arts and Sciences group will meet Jan. 18.
The book club will meet at 10 a.m. and will be reading “The Other Einstein” by Marie Benedict.
“The teacher for the Medieval Arts and Sciences class will be instructing everyone on how to make their own marmalade,” Marsh said. “Now, I can’t promise anyone marmalade, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the teacher brought in some to try.”
The monthly meeting of the Teen Reading Club will be Jan. 19 and while Marsh said he doesn’t have a specific selection of books prepared just yet, he assures teens there will be new manga available for them to read and the library will be serving pizza.
