Senior Copperas Cove Bulldawg Remington Weis is ready to hit somebody.

The 6-foot-2, 275-pound right guard earned First-Team All-Area and Second-Team All-District honors last season.

“I’m excited for this season to start,” Weis said. “I’m ready to get the pads back on. I haven’t had them on in a long time.”

Weis said he and his fellow offensive linemen are ready to do their part in making 2014 a successful season.

“We have a quarterback who can throw, receivers who can catch and running backs that can run,” Weis said. “So if we on the line do our jobs, we’ll be fine.”

Protecting All-Area MVP quarterback Manny Harris is a must.

“We want to make sure he has the time he needs,” Weis said.

So which does Weis prefer? Protecting the passer or run-blocking?

“Well, if I had to choose, I’d have to say my favorite thing is to run-block because you have someone right across from you,” Weis said with a slight laugh. “But, as a line, we’ll all be prepared for whatever play is called.”

Weis was pleased with the line after spring practice.

“We were working so well together as a line,” he said. “It felt right. Our biggest strength is we support each other. And that’s the most important thing about the offensive line: Everyone must do their job. If one guy doesn’t do his job, all the hard work is for naught.”

Weis is one of the key team leaders.

“I’ll share my goals with this team,” Weis said. “We want to go to the playoffs and we want to go further than last year. Plus, we want to grow as a team. We also want to make sure we have fun. I want to do my part to make sure our O-line is clicking. I know our D-line will be clicking, too.

“We’ll pull together and be a very strong football team this season.”
