Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation is scheduled to host its fifth annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition Saturday to give children a chance to prove their skills.
The program is open to boys and girls from ages 6 to 15. The event will test area children and give them one chance to punt, pass and kick a football for distance and accuracy.
It allows children to experience the fun of learning football fundamentals in an engaging and supportive non-contact environment, stated the program’s website. Sponsored by the NFL, 2013 marks the Punt, Pass and Kick’s 52nd season.
“The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick program creates a lively and engaging forum for boys and girls ages 6-15 to compete individually against their peers in punting, passing and kicking skills,” said Joseph Pace, Director of Parks and Recreation for Copperas Cove. “PP&K is about the kids, the parents who support them to come out and play, and the volunteers who give their time to organize these memorable events,” Pace said, citing the program’s website.
With five age divisions, and boys and girls competing separately, the top scorer for each boys’ and girls’ division at each local competition will advance to the sectional round.
Then the top four first-place scorers in each age group advance to the Team Championships held at NFL stadiums across the country.
Interested participants must fill out a waiver form available online at NFLPPK.com. Children not signed up in a Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation League must also show a valid birth certificate for age verification.
“This year’s event will begin at 9 a.m. and will finish prior to our 2013 Tackle Football Jamboree,” Pace said.
