The Copperas Cove High School varsity football team evened its record with a 26-12 win against Shoemaker on Oct. 6.
The win evened the Bulldawgs’ overall record at 3-3, 1-1 in District 8-6A play.
Trailing 9-0 near the end of the second quarter, the Bulldawgs marched 58 yards for their first score of the night. Tim Edwards scored on a 1-yard run for Copperas Cove cutting the lead to 9-7 at halftime.
Bryce Ranes scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Jaylen Smith giving the Bulldawgs a 13-12 lead in the third quarter.
Edwards and Smith scored the Bulldawgs final two touchdowns to pull out the win.
Shontez Simmons finished with 99 yards rushing on 10 carries, Dylan Taijeron ran for 74 yards and Edwards finished with 61 yards rushing. The Bulldawgs ran for 265 yards on 45 carries for the game.
Ranes finished with three receptions for 54 yards. Defensively, Jake Carney finished with seven tackles and Juan Jimenez had two and a half tackles for losses for Cove.
Cove will host Ellison today at 7:30 p.m.
Ellison (3-2) is 1-0 in District 8-6A action following a win two weeks ago against Shoemaker.
