Copperas Cove is less than a week away from beginning its soccer seasons.

After starting practice on Nov. 28, the Lady Bulldawgs took part in a preseason tournament at Corsicana to fine-tune their skills before embarking on their schedule.

In the opening match, Copperas Cove defeated the host squad 5-1 behind a pair of goals from Jordan Campbell. Both scores were unassisted.

Kailey Walker and Ashley Cowan also recorded unassisted goals.

Jordyn Seibel rounded out the team’s scoring off a pass from Walker.

Later, the Lady Bulldawgs defeated Waco University as Ariana Wilson found teammate Haven Stevenson for the match’s lone goal.

The Bulldawgs open their season Jan. 10 at Waco before competing at the Harker Heights tournament and hosting China Spring. On Jan. 24, District 8-6A play begins with Copperas Cove traveling to Belton.

The Bulldawgs’ first district match at home is Jan. 27 against Midway.

Today, the Bulldawgs host an eight-team scrimmage tournament.

Copperas Cove plays Lampasas at 8 a.m. at the Avenue E field before playing Salado at 2 p.m. At 5 p.m., the Bulldawgs play Taylor at Bulldawg Stadium, and they conclude the tournament with another match against Salado at 8 p.m.

BASKETBALL

The Bulldawgs complete their nondistrict schedule today at the Mike Smith Victoria Classic.

Copperas Cove opened the tournament against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and Victoria East on Thursday and are set to face Boling at 9:30 a.m. today.

Depending on the outcome, the Bulldawgs will conclude their stay with a final game to determine where they finish in the eight-team field.

Tuesday, Copperas Cove resumes district play by hosting Ellison at 7 p.m.

The Bulldawgs are looking for their first district victory after losing to San Angelo Central 63-56 prior to the holiday break.
