Cove linebacker signs letter of intent

Copperas Cove linebacker Elijah Timarky, who led the Bulldawgs in tackles last season, committed to play for Harding University in Searcy, Ark., during a signing ceremony inside Bulldawg Gymnasium on Wednesday morning.

With Timarky overseeing the defense, Copperas Cove went 6-5 in 2013, reaching the postseason for a 10th consecutive season before falling to No. 2 DeSoto in the bi-district round.

As a senior, Timarky recorded 149 total tackles, including 11 for a loss, while recovering three fumbles and posting one and a half sacks.

Dawgs go 3-1 at KISD Tournament

Copperas Cove had a strong showing at the annual KISD Tournament, winning its final three games by a combined score of 33-16.

The Bulldawgs began play with two games in one day, losing to Austin 13-0 in th tournament opener before rebounding to beat Lorena 6-3.

On Friday, the Bulldawgs returned to beat Waco University 12-1, and closed the tournament the following morning by beating Rockdale 15-12.

The showing improves Copperas Cove’s overall record to 6-3-1 entering tonight’s game at Waco scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Lady Dawgs qualify for state powerlifting meet

Competing at the regional powerlifting meet at Hays, three Copperas Cove girls powerlifters advanced to the upcoming state meet.

Olivia De La Cruz produced the best finish, placing second in the 220-plus pound division, while Antonia Rodriguez was third in the same weight class, and Amber Boyd placed seventh in the 123-pound division.

The girls state powerlifting meet is scheduled for March 14 in Corpus Christi.

Ciera Colbert finished fifht in the 105-pound weight class, while teammate Caroline Darling placed 10th in the same division.

In the 165-pound weight class, Raelynn Morris-Utu and Kianna Childers finished seventh and ninth, respectively.

Rounding out the group was Danielle Garcia, who placed 10th in the 181-pound division, and Allison Cox.

Midway sweeps Cove soccer teams

Both Copperas Cove soccer teams were unsuccessful against Midway as each suffered shutout losses Tuesday.

The Bulldawgs lost 2-0 at home, while the Lady Bulldawgs traveld to Waco, where they lost 5-0.

The squads will look to rebound tonight against Belton. The boys game is on the road, and the girls play at home. Both are set to start at 7 p.m.
