The Copperas Cove High School tennis team won three of four matches in the last week.
The Bulldawgs won two of three matches over the weekend. CCHS lost 10-9 in a tough match against Temple, but rebounded with wins over Taylor and Brownwood. Cove defeated Taylor 13-6 and Brownwood 11-8.
The Bulldawgs defeated Killeen 15-4 Tuesday night in a rain-delayed match.
“We had an hour and a half delay due to weather, but we came out in doubles and put a stamp on the match,” coach Paul Talbett said. “We jumped out to a 6-1 lead with the only loss in doubles in a third-set tie breaker.”
Nick Motley, Alyssa Gonzalez, Abby Mackwelung and Latoya Alokoa earned singles wins giving the Bulldawgs 10 points needed for the win.
The Bulldawgs are 12-6 on the season, 1-0 in district play.
Cove lost to Temple Friday, but came back to sweep Taylor and Brownwood Saturday in a quad match at home. The Bulldawgs won five of seven matches against Brownwood and Taylor. Ari Diaz/Noah Samarripa won two matches at No. 3 doubles and Angie Gorman/Nadrene Reid won twice at No. 2 doubles.
Cross Country finishes in top 10 at XC invitational
The Copperas Cove girls cross country team finished sixth in the D 5-6 race Sept. 1 at Temple.
Mariyah Reynold finished 10th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 10 seconds on the 3.1 miles course. Madisen Honea was two spots behind her in 21:13, Mikayla Davins finished 31st with a time of 22:37 and Juyah Robinson placed 33rd in 22:41.
The boys’ team finished 10th in the D 5-6 race at James B. Wilson Park. The Bulldawgs were led by Tristian Reno who finished 44th overall in 18:53. Teammate Neyland Block was two spots behind him (18:54), Justus Honea finished 49th (19:05) and Ray Barros finished 51st (19:11) for the Bulldawgs.
Volleyball sweeps nondistrict competition Tuesday
Copperas Cove completed its nondistrict schedule by defeating Robinson 25-7, 25-17 and 25-17 Tuesday. The Bulldawgs open District 8-6A play today at Killeen beginning at 5:30 p.m.
On Sept. 1, the Lady Bulldawgs defeated Temple 25-22, 25-21 and 25-8 in nondistrict play. Aidan Chace had 11 kills and 15 assists and Kamryn Ash finished with 22 assists and two aces.
Talie Kinslow tallied 10 kills and Christina Pettigrew scored six kills and two blocks. Kristen Wasiak led the team with 23 digs for Copperas Cove (25-8).
