It’s here. Well, it’s almost here.
Football practice begins Aug. 11 for quarterback Manny Harris and the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs.
“I’m just excited,” Harris said. “I got goose bumps just talking about it. I can’t believe it’s finally here.”
In 2013, as a junior, Harris earned the KDH All-Area Most Valuable Player Award. Cove, as per usual, made it to the playoffs.
“I think we’ll be a great team this year,” Harris said. “I think we’ll be even more of a true team this year than last year. We’ll be giving it our all every time we step on that field.”
Cove, of course, will be led on the sidelines by its legendary head coach Jack Welch.
“Coach Welch is amazing,” Harris said. “He’s a winner and it’s unbelievable how much energy he brings to every single practice. I’ve been in Cove my whole life and to be able to play for him now is an amazing experience.”
The Bulldawgs qualified for state this summer in 7-on-7 action.
“I think the 7-on-7 work helped us get our timing down and focus on our plays,” Harris said. “It also helped our defensive backs and linebackers a lot.”
Harris said the Cove defense “should be outstanding” in 2014.
“I think we’ll have one of the top defenses in the state,” Harris said. “Our defensive coordinator, Coach (Reb) Brock, will have our guys working. He sure knows what he’s doing. Our defense will be ready for this season.
“As a team, we’ll be ready to go.”
