The Lady Bulldawgs will attempt to capture their third consecutive District 8-6A victory today against Killeen. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Ranked No. 21 in the state, Copperas Cove not lost in district since falling to then-No. 12 Ellison 45-35 prior to the holiday break, climbing to second in the standings.
With a 5-1 district record, the Lady Bulldawgs are situated behind only the Lady Eagles, who are ranked eighth in the state with an unblemished 6-0 showing. No. 19 Waco Midway (4-2) is third, while Killeen and San Angelo Central are tied for fourth place at 3-3.
Belton (2-4), Harker Heights (1-5) and Shoemaker (0-6) round out the standings.
Copperas Cove is coming off a 55-47 road victory against the Lady Knights.
Following tonight’s contest, the Lady Bulldawgs host Belton on Tuesday.
Aidan Chace was named Player of the Year at the Copperas Cove High School volleyball team banquet Monday night at the Copperas Cove Civic Center.
Chace, a junior, earned the award based on voting by her teammates.
Other awards went to junior Kristen Wasiak (defensive player of the year), sophomore Leah Powell (top server), junior Aviyon Wilborn (top receiver), senior Talia Kinslow (top hitter), junior Christina Pettigrew (top blocker), junior Kamryn Ash (top setter) and Janice Fa’aola (sophomore of the year).
The Bulldawgs continue play at the Killeen ISD Winter Soccer Showcase this weekend.
After opening with a match against Brownwood on Thursday, Copperas Cove is set to play Austin Achieve today at 2 p.m. before facing Waco University’s White team on Saturday at 8 a.m.
The matches will be played at Leo Buckley Stadium.
The matches are being treated as friendlies in an attempt to prepare teams for district competition and ties will stand as draws.
Following this weekend, Copperas Cove will travel to play Liberty Hill at 7 p.m. Tuesday in their nondistrict finale.
The Bulldawgs open District 8-6A play Jan. 23, hosting Belton.
