The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs advanced to the regionals after finishing third in the Central Texas District regular-season standings.

“It would have been nice to take first place,” said Cove head coach Jerry Stutz. “Then we could have been the three-time defending champions, but the good thing is we’ve qualified for regionals. There were three very good teams in our district this season.”

Harker Heights took the title with a 9-1 record and Ellison finished second at 8-2. Cove was 7-3.

Key components to the success of Cove were Dakota Stutz (185 average), Jessica Reed and Addie Ganyard.

Cove’s top bowler, and the district’s best, was Stephani Brown who averaged 206.5 and earned Most Valuable Bowler honors.

“Stephani was consistent all year long,” said Coach Stutz. “She deserved the award.”

“It’s nice to have the award, but it’s no big deal to me,” said Brown, a senior. “I come here to bowl, not for the titles.”

As for moving on to regionals, Brown said, “I think we did really well, overall, as a team to advance. As a team, moving forward, we must remember that spares count.”
