Students at Clarke Elementary thanked soldiers from the 13th Sustainment Command's 15th Sustainment Brigade Special Troops Battalion with a concert on Thursday.
Pre-kindergarten through third-graders performed songs like "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "I'm Proud to be an American" for a handful of soldiers who volunteer at the school; Lt. Col. Paula Lodi, the battalion commander; and Col. Larry Phelps, the brigade commander.
It's nice to see that the children appreciate the soldiers who come to the school, said Pfc. Robert Floyd, a 20-year-old signal support systems specialist from Willows, Calif.
He volunteers in the school workroom, helping teachers prepare for projects.
Floyd has a 7-year-old sister, Samantha, back home, and volunteering at the school reminds him of her. He likes to come to Clarke, he said, because he knows he's "helping little kids learn" and "helping them out with choices in life."
"I think they look to all of us as role models because we wear the uniform," Floyd said.
