The Central Texas chapter of the Military Officers Association of America dedicated a granite bench Friday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

It is located on the south side of the cemetery, near the retired flag burning pit by the flagpole. The bench joins two others donated by Killeen's Boy Scout Troop 287.

The latest bench is "dedicated to all the officers and warrant officers who have given their service and lives in support of continued freedom of our nation," according to information from the chapter.

A ceremony to dedicate the bench was hosted by the chapter at the flagpole Friday morning, and included the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of "God Bless America," a prayer, brief history of the project and remarks by retired Col. Jack Oliver, a Belton native and past chapter president.

The chapter worked with the city of Killeen, Fort Hood and the Texas State Land Board to get land and a cemetery for "our veterans," Oliver said.
