Representatives from the Hilton Garden Inn-Temple and ARAMARK Star Team presented a $1,559.85 check to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center's Fisher House on July 19.

"We were really glad that we are able to give back to those who give so much for us. It's our way of showing our appreciation for what they do," said Eyal Kaczur, general manager at the Hilton hotel.

The Fisher House was one of three charitable groups in the area identified by the Star Team to receive a donation, Kaczur said. They hold fund-raising events each year, he said, but this was the first time they held a community-wide garage sale. The sale proved to be successful, earning them almost $6,000 in about four hours.

Isaac Howard, manager of the Fisher House, said he is happy the garage sale was a success, especially grateful for the Fisher House's portion of the proceeds.

"We deeply appreciate their donation. We rely heavily on cash contributions such as this to help pay our bills and buy amenities for our families staying here," Howard said. "I'm proud to know that we have such good friends from throughout the area that want to help support the Fisher House families."

Fisher Houses, located at major military medical centers throughout the U.S. and Europe, offer shelter and support for military members and their families during a medical crisis.
