Col. Victoria M. Bruzese ended a successful three-year tour as garrison commander Friday, turning over the reins of Fort Hood to Col. William V. Hill.

Bruzese has been commander since 2004 and is now on to the Pentagon as executive officer for Lt. Gen. Robert Wilson, assistant chief of staff for Installation Management Command, Commanding General.

Her successor, Hill, comes to the post from U.S. Northern Command, where he served as deputy and chief for the Future Operations Section.

The ceremony was conducted at III Corps Headquarters in front of several hundred distinguished guests and colleagues, military and civilian.

J. Randall Robinson, the director of IMCOM West, was on hand to praise the tour of Bruzese, who he called “a brilliant performer of logistics operations.”

“In the past three years, your passion for excellence has helped to deploy over 253,000 soldiers to Iraq — active, Guard and Reserve,” Robinson said.

Robinson said Fort Hood also moved 166,000 pieces of equipment in the same time period, a feat unsurpassed by any military installation in the United States.

Bruzese thanked her soldiers and civilian employees for her success and quoted President Abraham Lincoln in her farewell address.

“All that I have become can be attributed to my mother,” She said. “My mom and dad have the best seat in the house as they look down on me for this day.”

Bruzese also thanked U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, for attending the ceremony and said all should pray for the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 4th Infantry Division, as they both get ready to deploy for a third time.

“Today is bittersweet. It’s hard to leave this family,” she said.

Hill pledged to take up where Bruzese left off.

“Our mission is clear. It’s a tremendous privilege and challenge to be in command of the best mobilization garrison in the world,” Hill said.
