Army Spc. Victor O. Diaz Lopez has been awarded a 7th Cavalry Division Coin in recognition of outstanding individual specific achievement, accomplishment, or performance within or outside the soldier's assigned job responsibilities or line of duty.

The military coin is a powerful symbol used by commanders to promote pride, build cohesion, increase morale within a unit and show personal appreciation to service members.

Diaz Lopez is maintenance specialist assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry at Fort Hood. The specialist has served in the military for nine years.

Diaz Lopez graduated in 1996 from College Ruby, Las Piedras, Puerto Rico.

He is the son of Estrella Casanova Diaz of Fort Hood.

Army Spc. Cassie L. Martinez has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal.

The medal is awarded to soldiers of the U.S. Armed Forces, who while serving in any capacity with the Army have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement while serving in a combat or non-combat area.

Martinez is a parts clerk assigned to 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood. The specialist has served in the military for four years.

Martinez graduated in 2001 from Pleasant Hill High School, Pleasant Hill, La.

She is the daughter of Carolyn R. Graves of Irving, and Jim R. Anders of Pleasant Hill, La.

Her husband, Richard Martinez, is the son of Richard H. Martinez of Milam, and Karen Guillory of Killeen.

Army Pvt. Melani D. Fairchild has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training.

The soldier completed the military police specialist course to acquire skills to provide combat area support, conduct battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations.

The trainee performed as a team member in support of battlefield operations, installation law and order operations and security of Army resources and installations. Additional training included providing peacetime support to the military community through security of resources, crime prevention programs, and preservation of law and order.

Fairchild is a 2011 graduate of Ellison High School.

She is the daughter of Laura and Corey Fairchild of Killeen.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Timothy A. Carnell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is a 2008 graduate of Killeen High School.

Carnell is the brother of Cody Adams of Killeen.

Air Force Airman Emanuel M. Burdette graduated from eight weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

He is a 2011 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Burdette is the son of Shelby Burdette and Byron Phillips of Killeen, and grandson of Artensia Burdette of Union City, Ga.

Air Force Airman Omar Mickens graduated from eight weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

He is a 2009 graduate of Ellison High School.

Mickens is the son of Aaron and Samia Mickens of Killeen.

Air Force Airman Xavier B. Tuggle graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

He is a 2010 graduate of Ellison High School.

Tuggle is the son of Kathy Tuggle of Killeen, and Frank Tuggle of Cataula, Ga.

Air Force Airman Joseph D. Vinson graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

He is a 2010 graduate of Belton High School.

Vinson is the son of Willie Vinson of Temple, and grandson of Sharon Vinson of Sturgis, S.D.
