Soldier who died after shooting identified

Officials last week released the name of a soldier who died May 13 from injuries sustained from a gunshot wound in Converse.

Sgt. Frederick J. Midgette, 38, whose home of record is listed as Kinston, N.C., entered active-duty service in March 1995 as a food service specialist.

He arrived at Fort Hood in August 2003 and was assigned to 4th Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command, since April 2005.

Midgette deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2003 to April 2004, from September 2005 to September 2006 and from February 2011 to September 2011. He also deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2008 to May 2009.

Midgette's awards and decorations include four Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, four Army Good Conduct Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign service stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, United Nations Medal, three Overseas Service Ribbons and the Army Service Ribbon.
