About 55 soldiers of the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade returned home Saturday from a yearlong deployment to Qatar.

The unit deployed about 70 soldiers to Qatar last July to provide command and control of Patriot units. The units consist of military personnel from various countries and branches of military services.

The units are there to protect Qatar and the surrounding regions.

Saturday, the remaining 55 soldiers were welcomed home in three separate ceremonies, including a ceremony to uncase the brigade's colors.

This deployment was a new experience for Christine A. Shaha and her daughter, Hallie.

"There were definitely hard times, but I imagined it would be worse," Shaha said. "Knowing God would protect him made it easier."

The 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade's 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is deployed to Southwest Asia.

The brigade's 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is preparing to deploy several hundred soldiers later in the year.
