A family-friendly Super Bowl party will take place Sunday at the Mega Food Court on T.J. Mills Boulevard, sponsored by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.

"A lot of the time families have children and can't take them to a club or bar with convenience," said David Ng, food court manager. "At the food court we have a play room where the families can bring their kids and leave them when they're watching the game. I think that's really convenient."

In addition to the secure play area, which will be monitored for safety and cleanliness by AAFES employees, Ng said the facility is stocked with four brand new TVs.

"We just installed four big-screen TVs in the dining room and replaced all the smaller ones, with a total of 10 in the food court," he said, adding the space can accommodate 350 people.

Although the Mega Food Court previously has hosted Super Bowl parties, AAFES' family viewing party has been held at Palmer Theater for the past several years.

The theater, which Ng estimated attracted up to 700 people for the viewing, is temporarily closed due to fire damage.

Food specials, including those on pizza and wings from the new shop, Wing Zone, also make the food court a good alternative location, said Ng.

Despite hosting Sunday football crowds all season, Backbone Lounge at the Phantom Warrior Center on 37th Street will be closed for the Super Bowl.
