Classic beats, like the 69 Boyz' "Tootsee Roll" and CeCe Peniston's "Finally" will rock Abrams Gym Physical Fitness Center Saturday night during the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Old School Salute to the Troops concert.

In addition to the Boyz and Peniston, late 1990s-era singers Dana Dane and Chubb Rock, among others, are scheduled to perform.

Directorate special events coordinator Sgt. Justin Caple the show was designed to unite soldiers and families of all generations through undeniably fun music.

"This is a unique opportunity to get the more seasoned crowd, if you will, to come out," Caple said.

Soldiers on the verge of retirement who listened to the 69 Boyz at the start of their careers might enjoy the concert as much as their younger counterparts who danced to them as young kids, he said.

That isn't often the case, as many of the musicians who visit Fort Hood have younger fan bases, Caple added.

The Old School Salute has gone live once before, at Fort Jackson, S.C., in August.

Both that show and Fort Hood's are put together by Fort Bragg, N.C., soldier and promoter G.L. Henderson, Caple said.

Ricky Addy, directorate special events co-planner, said she hoped Abrams gym will be full for the concert, at 2,500 people, but that tickets are still available.

Caple's ideal outcome was a little more specific.

"I hope there's a bunch of people in Adidas jumpsuits and Kangol hats," he said.

An after-party with a live deejay, food and drinks follows the concert at the Phantom Warrior Center.
