Camp C.O.P.E. is designed to help our young heroes cope with the effects of war, deployments and the sacrifices they are asked to make every day. Children are provided age-appropriate therapeutic interventions in small groups of their peers, who have had similar experiences. The interventions are both direct and indirect, according to their comfort level, and are tailored to help them cope better emotionally. Children who have attended Camp C.O.P.E. have reported improved grades and behavior, more enjoyable Family functioning and increased healthy relationships with others. This session of camp is at Mo Ranch Conference Center, 2229 Farm-to-Market 1340 in Hunt. The camp is FREE and open to children (ages 4-18) of service members who have been/will be/currently are deployed or are injured. Central Texas water enthusiasts can kick off summer at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area's Water Fest, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Activities will include the Drowned Rat Race, 21-foot Slide-n-slip, Gator Slip-n-Slide, kayak pools, inflatable bouncers, water slide rides, swimming at Sierra Beach and more. Patrons may also enjoy BLORA Ranch, the mountain bike-riding trails and camping opportunities. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. If so, enter the 2012 All-Army Arts and Crafts Contest, being held now through June 30 at Apache Arts and Crafts Center, 761st Tank Battalion and 62nd Streets, Building 2337. Enter your best 2-D and 3-D artwork to compete for cash prizes against the best artists and artisans in the U.S. Army! There are two Groups in which to enter: novice and accomplished. The categories for both groups are ceramics, drawings, fibers & textiles, glass, metals and jewelry, mixed media 2-D, mixed media 3-D, oil base painting, prints, water base painting and wood.
