Military Spouse Emerging Leader Course — 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The course is designed to equip future/current military spouse unit leaders with key information, resources and skills necessary for being informed, involved, productive and proactive members of unit teams. The course offers a wealth of information and is ideal for spouses of noncommissioned officers (squad, team, platoon and company leaders) and the spouses of commissioned officers (platoon and company leaders).

July 25-28

Fort Hood Exchanges — Join the Exchange and celebrate its 117th birthday. In-store specials and demonstrations all four days. Bungee run, bounty money chamber and kids characters will be available July 28.

July 26

Fort Hood Army Community Service will temporarily close to conduct team- building activities for the ACS birthday. Standard Army Community Service operations will resume on July 27. During this temporary closure, the ACS Army Emergency Relief office, located in the Rivers Building, will remain operational for those requiring emergency financial assistance.

Festival of the Arts: Attack of the Clones, 7 p.m., Phantom Warrior Center

This is your chance to showcase your talent and resemblance in front of an audience and judges for a chance to win prizes. All contestants are asked to perform, in costume and in character, for three to five minutes. Judging will be based on costume, voice/talent accuracy, etc. Contestants may sing, rap, dance, play an instrument, do a clean standup comedy routine, or perform a short dramatic number, to demonstrate likeness to the real person. A total of 16 finalists will be selected to participate in the finals. For more information, call (254) 286-5342.

Phantom Warrior Scramble, The Courses of Clear Creek, building 52381, Battalion Avenue at Clear Creek Road, $30 per person, mulligans $5 extra per person (optional). Teams must consist of three players from battalion/directorate/etc., and the fourth player can be whoever they wish. Noon shotgun start, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. registration. Author Leila Meacham will sign books from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Clear Creek Main Exchange, She will sign her latest book, "Tumbleweeds," the story of a Texas town, football and a love triangle.

Belton library will offer e-books

BELTON — Belton’s Lena Armstrong Public Library will soon offer virtual books. The library received a $5,000 J. Frank Dobie Library Trust Award, which is given each spring to chosen applicants. Kim Kroll, the library’s director, said all the money will be spent only on e-books.

Pentagon releases estimated impact of sequestration-level funding

The Defense Department on Tuesday released a report documenting the damaging cuts to military forces, modernization and readiness that will be required if defense budgets are held at sequester-levels in the years beyond fiscal 2015.
