The number of employers at Fort Hood’s largest job fair is expected to grow this year, thanks to a move to a new venue.

The Army Career and Alumni Program is hosting its annual summer job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 10 at Abrams Physical Fitness Center, said Robert Schumacher, market coordinator and counselor for the program.

Past job fairs were held at Club Hood, where ACAP was limited to 150 tables. Now at Abrams, Shumacher said he’s putting 185 tables in the main gym.

“We’re talking about 200 tables worth of employers, schools or support agencies,” he said.

Industries represented include law enforcement and security, truck drivers and mechanics, administrative, logistics, retail and human resources.

Schumacher said what employers like about hiring veterans is the measurability of their previous work experience.

“If you tell them you’ve been in the Army this long, you can document that. If you tell them your ratings and schools completed, you can document that,” he said.

“Employers also know you can pass a background and drug test and show up for work on time.”

Schumacher encouraged all attendees to bring copies of their resumes and dress as they would for a job interview.

Parking around Abrams is restricted and job seekers are asked to park at Hood Stadium, Phantom Warrior Lanes or the Warrior Way Specialty Store and take the free shuttle bus. The shuttle will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Last May, more than 5,000 people attended the fair.
