Lt. Gen. Paul Funk II, III Corps and Fort Hood commander, hosted editors from local media outlets for an informal luncheon Friday at the III Corps headquarters.
The lunch, attended by representatives of outlets such as the Killeen Daily Herald, KCEN, KWTX and KXXV, provided the commander an opportunity to talk with the post’s local media partners about what was needed to make the flow of information more efficient.
After a brief introduction about what III Corps is doing around the world and at Fort Hood for soldiers and their families, Funk took the time to answer various questions from the media outlets about opportunities to cover Fort Hood units and the service members stationed here.
“I like to tell the soldiers’ stories, because they are much better at it than I am at telling it,” Funk said. “Every day across this corps, some soldier saves someone else’s life. It’s amazing to watch.”
The commander overseas more than 90,000 soldiers from four installations. Later on Friday, Funk and Command Sgt. Maj. Michael A. Crosby cased the III Corps colors in preparation for a deployment to the Middle East, where they will replace XVIII Airborne Corps as the headquarters for more than 70 coalition nations with Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, the global coalition to defeat ISIS.
