Two graduates living on post received $1,000 scholarships from WinnCompanies, the firm providing the property management and maintenance services at Fort Hood Family Housing.

Recipient Sarah Brown will attend Texas A&M University in College Station to study visualization and computer science in hopes of having her own digital media studio.

“Winning the scholarship means taking more of the burden off of my parents. It will ease the stress of providing for my other siblings,” Sarah said.

Recipient Katherine Spellmon plans to study vocal performance at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

“I truly appreciate receiving this scholarship,” she said. “Being military, I’ve been to three high schools, which has been difficult to overcome.”

Katherine would like to continue her vocal performance and teach music at the high school level.

The WinningEdge scholarships are awarded to distinguished residents living in any of their communities nationwide.

“WinnCompanies aims to enhance the lives of those they serve, so of course we’re thrilled to award a second annual WinningEdge scholarship to one of our residents continuing their education,” said Marvin Williams, director of property management at Fort Hood Family Housing.

A total of $19,000 was awarded to WinnCompanies residents at military installations nationwide. Residents are encouraged to prepare for the 2015-2016 school year, with applications available February 2015 at www.forthoodfh.com.
