Fort Hood soldier drowns in Lake Waco on Saturday

Fort Hood officials released Tuesday the name of a soldier who died of an apparent drowning at Lake Waco on Saturday in Waco.

Pfc. Jackson Cole Taylor-Smith, 21, of Kansas City, Mo., entered active duty service in April 2011 as an indirect fire infantryman.

Taylor-Smith was last seen before dawn Saturday with some friends. His body was discovered Saturday night by a houseboat owner in the Speegleville Marina area of Lake Waco.

He arrived at Fort Hood August 2011 and was currently assigned to Fox Troop, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, since February. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
