While some medical services were exempt from furloughs, people will also see delays in service at Fort Hood medical facilities, according to officials with Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Long wait times can be expected for most services.
“While we acknowledge our services will be impacted due to the furlough that is scheduled to begin next week, our commitment to providing the highest quality care to our beneficiaries hasn’t wavered,” said Col. Patricia Darnauer, Darnall commander.
Starting July 12, Community Based Medical Homes at Harker Heights, Killeen, Copperas Cove, as well as Bennett and Russell Collier (West Fort Hood) clinics will close every Friday through Sept. 27. Primary care for Darnall Tricare Prime beneficiaries enrolled to these clinics will be consolidated at the Thomas Moore Health Clinic. Weekend care will be closed at all clinics. Any medical needs are being directed to the emergency room.
“We understand that we are still charged with providing the great care our warriors, veterans and family members deserve and expect. We will adhere to the standards of care, and any care that cannot be provided within (Darnall) will be referred to the network.”
Fort Hood’s Dental Activity will offer fewer Monday and Friday appointments, but there will be no cut to hours.
