The annual Garrison Barbecue was canceled for 2013, said Chris Haug, III Corps spokesperson.
The event, running since 2000, pitted directorates against each other in a barbecue grilling competition at the Sportsmen’s Center. Categories included ribs, brisket, chicken and beans.
In the past, the barbecue featured horseshoe and volleyball tournaments, along with the food. It was open to all Fort Hood Garrison employees.
Typically, the cooks who participated spent the entire night preparing their entries, and judges included Col. Matt Elledge, garrison commander.
In 2012, Fort Hood Directorate of Human Resources took first place in ribs and chicken. The Directorate of Public Works won first place in the brisket and bean categories.
The reasoning behind this year’s cancellation was not released.
