The Fort Hood Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation and Army Community Services hosted the first Hood Howdy event of the year at Club Hood on Friday.

Dozens of organizations from Fort Hood and the surrounding community, such as local chambers of commerce, participated in the event, which typically draws more than 1,500 attendees.

The event is geared to welcome new military families to the area, but other residents and retirees are also welcomed.

This is the 24th year Fort Hood has hosted the event. The next Hood Howdy is planned for August.
