Navy Chief Petty Officer Richard T. Hejnal, a 1994 graduate of Copperas Cove High School, assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman recently got underway for a final sustainment exercise before the ship’s upcoming deployment.
Truman departed Naval Station Norfolk along with embarked Carrier Air Wing 3 and 1st Combined Destroyer Squadron staff, joined with guided-missile cruisers USS San Jacinto, USS Gettysburg and guided missile destroyers USS Bulkeley and USS Mason for the exercise.
Hejnal joined the Navy in September 1994.
Matthew Visser of Harker Heights was named a commissioned officer of the U. S. Army by the University of Kansas on May 20. Visser studied political science, French and global and international studies.
Navy Airman Joann Alvarez-Maysonet assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis marched in the 65th Annual Armed Forces Day Parade in Bremerton, Wash. Alvarez-Maysonet participated in the parade to honor military members for their patriotic service.
Stennis recently returned from an eight-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibilities in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and continued Theater Security Cooperation efforts.
She is the sister of Jose A. Alvarez-Maysonet of Killeen.
The following airmen completed eight weeks of basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, earning four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force:
Air Force Airman 1st Class Kenneth D. Jefferson is the son of Maria Gomes and Bruce Jefferson, both of Killeen. A 2005 graduate of Shoemaker High School, he earned an associate degree in 2009 from Texas State Technical College, Waco.
Air Force Airman Andrew J. Bomba is the son of Andrew and Tamina Bomba of Killeen. He is a 2012 graduate of Ellison High School.
Air Force Airman Nancy Figueroa is the daughter of Alma Garrett of Fort Hood, and granddaughter of Paula Rapeta of Glendale, Ariz. She is a 2012 graduate of Silver Valley High School, Yermo, Calif.
