The following area sailors, stationed aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, are on a nine-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf:

Navy Chief Petty Officer Richard T. Hejnal, a 1994 graduate of Copperas Cove High School, joined the Navy in September 1994.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Stacey J. Goodwin is the son of Kasandra Grayson of Killeen, and Bernard Goodwin, of Lake Alfred, Fla.

Goodwin is a 2012 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Bryan A. Skelton is the son of Monica and George Skelton of Killeen.

He is a 2010 graduate of Killeen High School and joined the Navy in February 2013.

Air Force Airman Valerie Tello-Ortiz graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Tello-Ortiz is the daughter of Norberto Tello of Killeen.

A 2008 graduate of Killeen High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in 2012 from Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches.

The following airmen completed eight weeks of basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, earning four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force:

Air Force Airman 1st Class Aaron M. Gales earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Mary Gales of Killeen, and grandson of Bettye Gales of Dayton, Ohio. The airman is a 2009 graduate of Ellison High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Christopher D. Smith earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of David Smith of Killeen. The airman is a 2008 graduate of Ellison High School.

Air Force Airman Marcus Donnell is the son of Anthony and Tammy Donnell of Killeen. He is a 2011 graduate of Harker Heights High School.

Air Force Airman Marissa N. Roest is the daughter of Elizabeth Roswald of Johnson City. Roest is a 2012 graduate of Copperas Cove High School.

Air Force Airman Marcus L. Washington Jr. is the son of Marcus and Adrienne Washington of Killeen. He is a 2012 graduate of Harker Heights High School.
