Maj. Crystal Carberry, 33, is a multifunctional logistician for III Corps. She joined the military in 2002 and is currently deployed to Afghanistan as a supply logistics planner for the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command at Kabul International Airport.

Favorite thing about the military: “Meeting new people and working in diverse environments.”

Things the Army taught you: “Treat others as you would like to be treated.”

What inspired you to be a soldier? “Being able to help others.”

Deployments: Three times, in 2005 to Kandahar, Afghanistan; in 2008 to Tallil, Iraq, and she’s currently deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan.

What has this deployment been like?

“So far, it has been a great learning experience working in a NATO environment.”

What do you enjoy most about your deployment and the mission you’re supporting?

“This mission is a challenge for logisticians. The physical environment of Afghanistan calls for creativity when planning redeployment and retrograde. We truly are making history by supporting the operation while simultaneously drawing down our footprint.”

What do you miss most about Fort Hood and your family?

“Spending the weekends at home in the Texas Hill Country with friends and family.”
