The Texas Workforce Commission will host a job fair Thursday at Fort Hood to connect local veterans and their spouses with Texas employers. Companies of all size will gather as part of the TWC’s Hiring Red, White and You statewide job fair.

“All 28 workforce development areas are either hosting a job fair or converging a few workforce development areas, but every workforce development area will be involved on Thursday,” said TWC Business Services representative Frank Minosky.

The job fair is a joint effort between Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Texas Medical Center surgeon Dr. James Henry “Red” Duke Jr., the Texas Veterans Commission and the TWC. Although there will be TWC-hosted job fairs across the state on Thursday, the Fort Hood incarnation will be geared specifically toward veterans and their families.

“The state has made a point of making an effort to hire veterans,” said Minosky.

But he said non-veterans will be welcome as well.

“People out of work are people out of work, so we’re not turning anyone away,” he said.

The service, professional and retail industries will all be well represented at the job fair. Local employers already signed up include the city of Killeen, Scott and White Healthcare and Manpower. There will be employers from around the state, including Shell Oil, the Houston Police Department and Coca-Cola Refreshments. The TWC will also have a presence at the job fair to share their employment opportunities.

“There is something for everyone,” said Minosky. “We have 55 employers signed up so far. And were still getting calls. We expect about 60.”

The job fair will be at the Fort Hood Community Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
