Maj. Gen. Ryan F. Gonsalves has been assigned as the new deputy commander of III Corps and Fort Hood, the Army announced Tuesday.

Gonsalves currently serves as the commander of the 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson in Colorado.

The release, which came after business hours from the Pentagon, did not say which deputy commander position he would be assigned to. III Corps and Fort Hood has a deputy for maneuvers and a deputy for support, each with different responsibilities. According to Fort Hood officials, the deputy commander for support is traditionally a position filled by a foreign officer from an allied nation such as the United Kingdom or Canada.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. John Uberti currently serves as deputy commander for maneuvers, and British Maj. Gen. Douglas Chalmers serves as deputy commander for support.
