Spc. Mark A. Kakuk, 22, is a driver for the movement control department and a cable team specialist. He joined the military in 2011 and deployed for the first time this year to Kabul, Afghanistan, with III Corps.

Favorite thing about the military: “Friends and good battle buddies.”

Things the Army taught you: “Life is short so treat everyone with respect.”

What inspired you to be a soldier?

“My wife and family.”

What’s this deployment been like?


What do you enjoy most about your deployment and the mission you’re supporting?

“Being able to travel and conduct missions outside the wire.”

What do you miss most about Fort Hood and your family?

“Everything. There are things I would do just to get home to my wife, see her smile, her face and spend time with her.”
