Retirement pay overhaul

The Pentagon is proposing fundamental changes to the current retirement pay system that would lead to smaller paychecks every month, Army Times has learned.

But the detailed plan would provide some compensation for those smaller checks, in the form of three new cash payments provided well before soldiers reach old age.

The service is determined to keep “the best and the brightest,” but what about plans for the Army to trim down by 70,000 soldiers?

No volunteers, thanks, the Army says.
