From the April 7 issue:

Better gear for soldiers

New gear is coming as the Army plans significant upgrades to items that soldiers wear and carry — like helmets, boots, body armor and eye protection.

A jungle boot is even getting a look as the Army is “leaning forward for the Pacific shift,” officials say.

Feedback from soldiers is fueling the upgrades for their gear.

The folks at the Army who equip soldiers gave Army Times a preview. See this week’s issue for more.

New appearance reg: the details

With the new appearance regulation for soldiers expected to be released any minute now, new details have emerged about how long soldiers will have to react to the revised AR 670-1.

An Army message has the specifics: Soldiers will have to respond to some changes immediately after the reg is released. They will have a few days, or even weeks, to get their act together for other changes.

See the details in this week’s issue of Army Times.

Night-vision contact lenses

Soldiers, think your night-vision goggles are clunky and inconvenient?

Want something better?

How about ditching them and popping in a pair of night-vision contact lenses?

The technology is on the way to provide you with lightweight optics that expand your vision.

Researchers also see other possibilities for imaging devices and wearable electronics.

Find out what’s coming.
