Tickets are now on sale for the USO Fort Hood’s gala in September.

The theme of the second annual event is the Yellow Ribbon Benefit Gala, featuring Tony Orlando, singer of the 1970s hit, “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree.”

Similar to last year’s event, celebrity look-a likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Sylvester Stalone will greet guests as they arrive on a red carpet, said Robin Crouse, local USO director.

Tickets are $50 and include dinner, access to a silent auction and the evening’s entertainment, which also includes dancing to Motown, soul and dance hits, played by the Austin-based, 10-piece show band, Matchmaker.

“I’m very excited about this year’s gala,” Crouse said. “It’s going to be an evening to remember.”

All funds raised through the event stay in the greater Fort Hood area to support USO programs, such as United Through Reading. This program allows soldiers to be recorded reading a book to their children before deployment, and provides a DVD for the family.

Last year’s gala, featuring singer Wayne Newton, raised $18,000 and Crouse hopes this year’s event will match that. Tickets are on sale until two weeks prior to the event, but she recommends buying early. The 2012 gala sold out and no tickets are sold at the door.

The gala is at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. Purchase tickets online at

Sponsorships and space in the silent auction are available. Call the USO for more information at 254-768-2770.
