Airman 1st Class Eriq Rashad Hampton graduated from Air Force Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, onNov. 29, 2013.

During basic training, he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps.

Hampton traveled with his parents to several military installations across the United States, where he attended a variety of elementary and middle schools in South Carolina and in Killeen.

He graduated from Fort Meade High School in Fort Meade, Md., where he played football, member of the school choir, and a member of the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.

In the Army JROTC program, Hampton was promoted to cadet command sergeant major. He was also awarded an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship to Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md.

The airman is attending technical school at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. He continues to participate as the Drum Bugle Corps Commander of the 363rd Training Squadron Drill Team and Airman Leadership Program.

Hampton is the son of Eric Hampton of Columbia, S.C., and retired Army Tony and Sherrie Pruitt of Harker Heights.

The following airmen have earned four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force after completing eight weeks of basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio:

Airman 1st Class Tristian L. Fernandez, daughter of Paul Hacker of Hewitt, is a 2008 graduate of Ellison High School.

Fernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in 2012 from Texas A&M University-Central Texas.

Airman Allison M. Cope is the daughter of Joyce Jones of Temple. She is a 2003 graduate of Belton High School.

Airman Roderick D. Harris II is the son of Barclay and Shannon Watkins of McChord Air Force Base, Wash.

He is also the grandson of Annie Stone of Killeen and a 2008 graduate of Harker Heights High School.

Airman Shamyla R. Hawkins, daughter of Rhonda and Gerald Hawkins of Killeen, is a 2010 graduate of Leesville High School, La.

Airman Avary G. Kemp Jr. is the son of Shalonda Smith of Killeen and a 2013 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, Orlando, Fla.

Airman Raymond A. Longoria, son of Virginia and Adolph Longoria of Temple, is a 2012 graduate of Temple High School.

Airman Dazzmin L. Mathews, daughter of Porshia McCullar of Killeen, is a 2010 graduate of Killeen High School.

Airman Domineeq M. Monroe, daughter of Clifton and Marilyn Monroe of Killeen, is a 2012 graduate of Killeen High School.

Airman Karissa L. Reyes is a 2011 graduate of Richard Milburn Academy, Killeen.

Reserve Airman Timothy J. Davis, son of Jem and Melissa Davis of Killeen, is a 2013 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Reserve Airman Kiyara N. Robertson, granddaughter of Melinda and Billie Jones of Killeen, is a 2013 graduate of Harker Heights High School.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
