Army Sgt. Adam R. Caballero has arrived for duty to the Alexandria Recruiting Station, Alexandria, La.

Caballero will be serving as a recruiter and has served in the military for five years.

He is the son of Barbara and Ramiro Caballero of Killeen. Caballero graduated in 2005 from Amarillo High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice David C. Mitchell recently completed eight weeks of U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

David is the son of Sukhui and David H. Mitchell of Killeen and a 2006 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Taneiqua S. Malden was recently promoted to her current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Malden received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle.

Malden is a 2012 graduate of Ellison High School. She is the daughter of Natasha S. Malden of Killeen, and Billy Malden Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.

Army Pvt. Shelby L. Lopez has graduated from the nine-week basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Lopez is the granddaughter of Marjorie and Felix Moreno of Stamford. She is a 2010 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Samantha J. Meadors graduated from eight weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Meadors is the daughter of Soledad Glover of Wahiawa, Hawaii, and David Meadors of Killeen. She is a 2011 graduate of Leilehua High School, Wahiawa.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
