Sailors from the area, assigned aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, arrived in the U.S. 5th Fleet’s Area of Responsibility after the ship completed a routine transit through the Suez Canal. The sailors were:

Navy Chief Petty Officer Richard T. Hejnal, a 1994 graduate of Copperas Cove High School, joined the Navy in September 1994.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Bryan A. Skelton is the son of Monica and George Skelton of Killeen. Skelton joined the Navy in February 2013 and is a 2010 graduate of Killeen High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Stacey J. Goodwin is the son of Kasandra Grayson of Killeen, and Bernard Goodwin, of Lake Alfred, Fla. Goodwin is a 2012 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Army Cadet Alex M. Aligaweesa has graduated from the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, ROTC, Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky.

The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead them to the ultimate goal of becoming an Army officer.

College students experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation to serve in the Army or ROTC, and are eligible to receive two-year college scholarship offers and attend the Advanced ROTC Course at their colleges.

Aligaweesa is a student at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville. She is the daughter of Damalie Musoke of Killeen.

Army National Guard Pvt. Martia L. Wood has graduated from nine weeks of basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Wood is the daughter of Jozette and Marcus Wood of Fort Hood. She is a 2012 graduate of Ellison High School.

Air Force Airman Marcus X. Mathews completed the eight-week basic military training program at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Mathews is the son of Rosetta and William Mathews Jr. of Killeen. He is a 2008 graduate of Killeen High School.
