Army Maj. Thomas Davis, son of Colburn Hunt of Killeen, is competing for the Army team during the 2013 Warrior Games at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 11-17.

Davis is competing for the gold in cycling, swimming and sitting volleyball.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Richard T. Hejnal, a 1994 graduate of Copperas Cove High School, recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, home ported in Norfolk, Va.

Army Pvt. Durell E. Thomas has graduated from nine weeks of basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Thomas is the son of Lisa Sims of Killeen, and Joe Thomas of McKinney.

He is a 2011 graduate of Harker Heights High School.

Army Pfc. Khyeshia N. Sharpe has graduated from nine weeks of basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Sharpe is the daughter of Mae and Keith Sharpe of Killeen.

She is a 2011 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Navy Airman Joann Alvarez-Maysonet is assigned to the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, homeported in San Diego.

While transitioning the Surigao Strait, a narrow passageway between the Mindana and Leyte islands of the Philippines, the sailors paused during routine operations and paid tribute to the historical significance of the passage. Joann is the sister of Jose A. Alvarez- Maysonet of Killeen and Milka J. Alvarez- Maysonet of Whitehall, Pa.

The airman is a 2001 graduate of Rosalina C. Martinez High School of Guaynabo, P.R., and joined the Navy in December 2011.

The following airmen completed eight weeks of basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, earning four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force:

Air Force Reserve Airman James E. Blackman, son of Willette and James Blackman of Killeen, is a 2009 graduate of Shoemaker High School.

Air Force Airman Crystal A. Smith, a 2011 graduate of Shoemaker High School, is the daughter of Alma Arquero and Skylier Smith, both of Killeen.

Air Force Airman Felicia M. Tiumalu, daughter of Solomona and Florence Tiumalu of Killeen, is a 2010 graduate of Samoana High School, Pago Pago, American Somoa.

Air Force Airman Venetra S. Thames, a 2012 graduate of Forest High School, is the daughter of Sharon Thames of Forest, Miss., and Robert Thames of Killeen.

Air Force Airman Jaydee V. Dauz, a 2011 graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, Upper Marlboro, Md., is the son of Jun-David Dauz of Clinton, Md., and grandson of Leticia Dauz of Killeen.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
