WinnCompanies offers scholarships

Children living at Fort Hood Family Housing now have an opportunity to receive more than $1,000 in educational scholarships, thanks to Lend Lease’s property management partner, WinnCompanies.

WinnCompanies, the firm providing property management and maintenance services at Fort Hood’s on-post housing, is celebrating four decades in business by offering a scholarship opportunity to residents.

High school seniors, high school graduates and GED graduates living in communities managed by WinnCompanies, or its affiliates, and are pursuing some form of higher education, in community college, college, university or trade/professional school are invited by its board of directors to apply for scholarship grants for the 2013-2014 academic year, to be awarded in May. Scholarship grants start at $1,000.

To check eligibility, go to www.forthoodfh.com, and click on “current residents” and follow the link under Community News to download the full application packet and details. All completed applications must be submitted to Fort Hood Family Housing no later than April 12.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
