The 39th annual Fort Hood Retiree Appreciation event is Friday and Saturday.
Festivities are similar to past years and include a golf tournament, social events, legal assistance and a health fair. Any military retiree residing in one of the 175 counties within Fort Hood’s area of responsibility is welcome to attend.
About 400 retirees are expected to attend the opening ceremony and more than 3,000 retirees, and their family members are expected at the various events.
Representatives from organizations will be present during the County Fair at Club Hood from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
If you have questions or need more information, call 254-287-5210/8761 or email email@example.com.
In conjunction, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center will host a retiree health fair at the Thomas Moore Health Clinic on the corner of 58th Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue.
Representatives from various Darnall departments will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., dispensing information, conducting screenings, and answering questions for Central Texas retired military personnel and their spouses.
The seasonal flu vaccine, always the biggest draw for retirees, will be available. Retirees are also encouraged to get the tetanus, Pneumococcal and Zostavax shots, which will also be available at the health fair. Retirees must bring a note signed by their primary care provider stating there are no contra indications for the individual to receive the Zostavax immunization, which is a vaccine that helps prevent shingles in individuals 50 years of age and older.
Vaccines will not be available for children of retirees attending the health fair.
Retirees can also take advantage of screening opportunities covering health care concerns such as glucose level, blood pressure, weight and dental.
Dental Activity will provide oral cancer screening services and have an information table set up at the health fair.
