The Fort Hood USO will host one of its Movies on the Lawn events Friday night at the III Corps “front lawn,” Sadowski Field.

Fort Hood families are invited to enjoy a free showing of the movie “Despicable Me” at 6 p.m., during the last event of the season.

Fort Hood USO Center Director Isabel Hubbard said the event typically attracts about 300 people, and “has been by far the favorite of the families of the military community.”

Each of the Movies on the Lawn events includes a family friendly movie selection with a G or PG rating, including classics like “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and “Cinderella” in years past.

Hubbard said other “fun surprises” for children are also included during the evening.

This week, children are invited to dress in their favorite costumes for a costume parade held before the movie. A complimentary concession stand, face-painting and games can also be enjoyed before the show.

“Our mission is to ‘lift the spirits of America’s Troops and their families.’ Why not provide an evening where quality moments can be created? Keeping the military family connected — one movie at a time,” Hubbard said.
